Would architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe have achieved international fame if it wasn’t for a number of distinctive female figures who had his back? Much has been said about this world-famous architect, who worked at the Bauhaus with Walter Gropius and Paul Klee, and after emigrating from Germany became one of the most prominent architects in the United States. But director Sabine Gisiger now turns her attention to the women in his life, who were hindered by old-fashioned customs and outdated traditions. The film combines archival footage with the fictionalized testimony of his daughter Georgia, a dancer and filmmaker, who retells for us the sweeping family saga of the modernist era.
Prague and Brno: After the screening, there will be a discussion with director Sabine Gisiger.
