In the 1970s, architect Harry Glück designed a utopian neighbourhood where even the working class could live like the rich, with swimming pools, communal areas, nurseries and schools. And what does such a life look like in Alterlaa, Austria’s largest social housing complex? We invite you to the closing film at the Světozor cinema, where you will be guided through Alterlaa by one of its former residents. In her debut, director Bianca Gleissinger reveals the workings of this “city within a city”.
This year’s edition of the film festival brings an important news! You can buy a package of 6 films of the main screening in Světozor cinema. You won’t miss out on the highlights of this year’s programme and one screening will cost you 125 CZK.
The first film of this year’s Film and Architecture Festival is a humorous documentary road movie through the various bus stops in the former Soviet Union. Under the strict scrutiny of the regime it was almost impossible to express oneself artistically, one of the few exceptions being the bus stops.
Where else to see a film about the long-denounced, now much-praised architecture right in the architectural jewel of the past regime. Come to the screening of Architecture 58-89 at the Intercontinental Hotel. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers – Jan Zajíček and Vladimír 518.
Eccentricities and Oddities – this is the subtitle of the 13th edition of the international Film and Architecture Festival, which will take place from September 26 to October 1 in Prague, Brno, and other cities across the Czech Republic. This unique showcase of films about architecture and design will, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of writer Franz Kafka, focus on architectural works that were not considered valuable in their time and even provoked outrage and opposition. The festival will highlight both atypical and forgotten buildings, many of which were not designed by architects, and will offer unconventional, humorous, and even absurd film interpretations.
The thirteenth edition of the festival will take place from September 26 to October 1, 2024, in Prague and several other cities throughout the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Traditionally, the festival will offer audiences a selection of the highest-quality contemporary films focused on architecture. Viewers can once again look forward to discussions with filmmakers and a special accompanying program.
The theme of the 13th edition of the festival is “Oddities and Uniqueness.” The festival will explore not only atypical structures and unusual corners of places but also unconventional cinematic interpretations and absurd connections. It draws inspiration from and loosely connects to the 100th anniversary of the death of the writer Franz Kafka.
Film and Architecture Festival announces an open call for films related to the topic of architecture and urbanism.
Selected films will be screened at the 13th edition of Film and architecture festival which will take place from September 26 to October 1st 2024.
