What are the benefits of the Olympics for the host cities and their countries? Is hosting the Olympic Games sustainable from an urban and economic point of view? And what happens to the megalomaniacal buildings serving this feast of sport only a few weeks after the Olympics are over? Filmmaker Haruna Honcoop, along with photographer Jiang Shengde and other experts, explores abandoned Olympic stadiums and observes how cities are changing for Olympic preparations. The film follows the resistance of Paris residents against the construction of a new Olympic Village, while in Tokyo and Beijing the filmmaker explores the consequences of previous Games. Through interviews with locals, Olympic opponents, architects and experts, the film focuses on issues of sustainability and the purpose of hosting such large sporting events, which often lead to displacement of people and devastation of the urban landscape.
