Can a natural material like mud present the future of construction? Mud Frontiers is an experimental project led by the architect and lecturer at the American Berkeley University Ronald Rael and his partner and designer Virginia San Fratello. Using 3D-printing technology to build adobe structures, they follow the heritage of Rael’s ancestors coming from a valley in southern Colorado, where Indigenous and Hispanic communities have lived in harmony—and in conflict—for several centuries.
