Following May’s Archievening, which transported us to Switzerland, our journey continues in June as we turn our focus toward Germany. Bernhard Kurz and Johannes Krohne from the IFUB* architectural studio will share insights into the evolution of community housing in Germany. The lecture will be followed by a screening of the film Women of the Bauhaus by director Susanne Radelhof—the same title that opened last year’s Day of Architecture festival.
Names like Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer are known to all, but what of artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis or textile visionary Gunta Stölzl? While the Bauhaus was the home of the avant-garde and the cradle of modern architecture, it is predominantly associated with its male figures. Despite their undeniable influence, women are often overlooked in its history. Susanne Radelhof tells the story of this legendary, often troubled school through the eyes of those who faced even greater challenges. This documentary serves as a tribute to the forgotten women of the Bauhaus, showcasing their determination to make their mark in fields long dominated by men.
The screening will take place after the June lecture held by the Kruh association. The hosts from the IFUB* studio will be Bernhard Kurz and Johannes Krohne.” Separate tickets are required for both the lecture and the screening; alternatively, a discounted “Archivečer” (Archievening) bundle is available, covering both parts of the program.
Archievening is back! We are opening the season with the fascinating Swiss documentary Brunaupark, which touches on the highly topical issue of housing affordability and the transformation of urban spaces. The film follows the fate of a Zurich residential complex with more than four hundred households, facing planned demolition to make way for new development. Over the course of three years, directing duo Hergert and Zietlow captured not only the growing uncertainty among local residents, but also the strength of a community that refuses to give up its home. The screening is also the first taste of this year’s Film and Architecture Festival.
Brunaupark will be screened after Kruh’s May lecture, “Zurich: Supporting Social Diversity and Community Life”, featuring architect Pascal Müller from Müller Sigrist Architekten. Separate tickets are required for the lecture and the screening, or you can take advantage of a discounted Archievening package (lecture + screening).
Tune in to Zurich with Kruh.
