In 1961, the twenty-eight-year-old Justo Gallego decided to build a cathedral in a small town near Madrid. For the next 60 years of his life, he devoted all his time and energy to its construction. While everyone thinks he’s crazy, Justo turns this eccentric idea into reality and builds a cathedral the size of Barcelona’s Sagrada Família with his own hands. With no architectural training whatsoever, he makes history in Spain, where a grandiose structure made mostly of recycled materials and without building permits stands. Visually fascinating and highly satisfying for the viewer, this documentary uses many archival materials to vividly capture the story of endless will, determination, and the toll it takes.
