How much can one tenacious working mother do against politicians and developers and their plan to gentrify her beloved downtown New York neighborhood? The inspiring story of activist Frances Goldin’s long struggle for the right to housing. It all began in 1959, when New York City announced it would evict over 2,000 working-class and immigrant families and dozens of businesses from the Cooper Square area of Manhattan to make way for new development projects. After hundreds of community meetings, Frances and her neighbors succeeded in doing something unprecedented – preserving affordable housing in the heart of the city.
