They were once important buildings, valuable works of art, icons representing the state. What is left of them and what do they mean today? Soviet construction and its modernist and brutalist architecture had an integral part in building the present-day appearance of the Georgian city of Tbilisi, once proud of its title as the “showcase” of the Soviet Union. The documentary follows the lives of eight buildings through the intimate testimonies of their inhabitants, opening up themes of identity, social change, and political conflict. A collective of Czech and international students created the film as part of the Locument studio at FA CTU in collaboration with the 2022 Tbilisi Architecture Biennale.
