The love and hate relationships of three artists in the backdrop of an iconic building come to life in a stylish docufiction. In 1929, Irish designer and architect Eileen Gray had a haven built on the Côte d’Azur based on her design. Her first house is a discreet avant-garde masterpiece. The name E.1027 is a cryptic marriage of her initials and those of her then-partner Jean Badovici, with whom she built it. Eileen Gray’s very first realization proved to be a masterpiece, which ultimately, paradoxically, hurt it. Many famous architects couldn’t bear the thought that someone had designed something better than them. When Le Corbusier discovered the house, he became completely obsessed with it, distorting the purity of the space with his paintings, and, in addition, he built his famous Le Cabanon behind E.1027 to steal attention. This fascinating, partly fictionalized cinematic journey into the mind of Eileen Gray is a story about the power of expressing femininity and the desire of men to control it.
